The world of fashion and interiors can sometimes seem a little overwhelming... but it doesn't have to be. stylem is a monthly online magazine that brings this commonly unattainable world - warms it up - and presents it in a friendly, accessible manner. We had a chat to stylem editor, Emma Wood (pictured below), about inspiration, mantras, dreams, and the lifestyle that makes it all possible. Emma was also kind enough to share a peek inside stylem.

You've worked at Harper's BAZAAR in the UK and at Australian Vogue, but stylem has been a dream of yours for a long time. What made you want to do your own thing?
I've always really enjoyed fashion styling and working on magazines, but really wanted to create my own brand and magazine that not only reflected all the areas of life I'm interested in, but that was also incredibly realistic and approachable. My key aim was to help women easily bring more style in every aspect of their lives without feeling intimidated by certain brands or products.

stylem combines fashion and lifestyle. Do you see these two increasingly merging? Why do you think this is?
Yes they're definitely merging more than ever now. Style is a personal expression of your personality, so you don't want to limit that to just your wardrobe. You want it to shine through in all parts of your life – whether it's your home, car, or even things like cooking or entertaining. People are becoming more aware of this now and wanting to incorporate more style into their lives which I believe is due to the amount of imagery and advice they're being exposed to through things like online media outlets, and Facebook and Instagram. People see what others are doing and are then inspired for their own lives.

What charges you creatively and where do you find inspiration?
I would say I get my creative fuel from living in such a great place and leading a healthy lifestyle. I live on the beaches with lots of great things on my doorstop. I get my inspiration from everything around me also, such as a cool cafe or beautiful boutique I see when out and about; as well as looking at various websites, blogs, photographs and magazines.

From stylem's April issue, out now.
The stylem tagline is "Be inspired. Be happy. Be you." How do you manage to live this philosophy day to day?
Personally, working on stylem inspires me because I know I'm inspiring others. I'm happy that I'm finally working on my own dream project and make sure I spend lots of time with family and friends. And by living the way I want to – such as where I live and the things I do regularly such as yoga, I know I'm really being 'me.'

Picnic ideas, as seen in the March issue of stylem.
What are your dreams for stylem?
My dream is that stylem continues to grow and be successful, so I can reach as many women as possible and help inspire them to find more enjoyment in life through style.
