How to style up a rental
While tenancy agreements may limit some creative decorating ideas, there is still plenty you can do to personalise your space and add a homely feel that's all yours.
1. Lighting
Replace outdated or ordinary light fixtures with statement pendant lights that reflect your personal taste. A statement pendant light can become a stylish focal point in a room without having to take up valuable floor space. Pendants with a shade create cosy ambient lighting. Consider materials like rattan to add warmth.
If your existing recessed lights cast a harsh luminous glow, avoid using them and instead, light up rooms with stylish floor lamps and ceramic table lamps.

2. Hardware
You might not be able to do a kitchen or bathroom reno, but that doesn't mean you can't change out the hardware. Shop our range of cabinet handles and taps and mixers. Don't be scared to contrast new with old – matt black tapware with clean lines steals attention from less than impressive tiles. (Just make sure you store the originals carefully for when you move out.)
Not a big fan of your kitchen cabinets? Simply remove the doors altogether and showcase some beautiful dinnerware.

3. Rugs
Cover cold flooring, scratched floorboards or threadbare carpet with an extra-large area rug or, for a more affordable option, layer and overlap two smaller rugs. Adding rugs create sumptuous warmth and texture, and instantly make a space feel more luxurious. They're also great to create zones in an open plan space, giving an area a feeling of intimacy and a sense of purpose. They add colour and texture, acting like an artwork for the floor and, from an entirely practical point of view, they can help with a room's acoustics by dampening echoes and buffering the noise.

"Keep it traditional with a patterned rug placed over an oversized jute or combine a rectangular wool rug with an organically shaped cowhide underneath for the ultimate play on texture."

4. Curtains
Soften a room or hide blinds with simple sheer curtains and hang them using a tension rod so you don't have to screw hooks into the walls.

5. Room dividers
Consider room dividers or partitions to create zones or to provide a handy 'wall' to display artwork and other decorative items.

6. Artwork
A large artwork can really dress up a space and help you make your mark. If you're hesitant to hang your art, you can always lean it against a wall, console or bench.
