Our feature today includes a range of black and white frames in different styles. Our amazing stylist Jessica Bellef did another great job creating a wall of frames, and we picked her brain on how to create this look.
"In choosing the frames, pick a limited colour palette to unify the collection. We mixed and matched ornate frames with frames that were more clean-lined, but they were either black or white, so that tied all the frames together, giving a cohesive look to the display.
The collection of images in the frames can also have more impact if there is a unifying theme: there may be a particular colour you want to focus on in all your chosen images and this could be a colour that works back with the scheme of your room. It could be that your frames are themed by content: for example, all the images are pictures of birds, or it's a collection of black and white landscape shots.
The actual positioning of the frames is kind of like playing a game of Tetris so it's best to work out the positions of the frames by laying them out on ground before you attack the walls with nails and a hammer.

You may be more drawn to symmetrically balanced compositions and prefer that sense of order and calm in your space. A more eclectic and haphazard display can bring a lot of energy into a room. Consider the room you are setting the display up in, as this can help you make decisions about positioning and scale. For instance, if you want to set a frame display up in a narrow hall way, you may want choose frames that are smaller in scale, so that passers by can comfortably view all the images without having to back right up against the wall.
Have a range of different sized frames to choose from. Start by positioning the largest frames in your display area, and then fit the smaller frames around them. Add interest into your composition by having different sized gaps between the frames.
The most important thing however is to make sure all the frames are hanging straight!"
Thank you Jess! If you have any questions on this subject, leave a comment here.
