How would you describe your design philosophy and aesthetic?
My philosophy is to use clever design to highlight the intrinsic nature of materials, treating materials in an honest way. My aesthetic is clean and modern, with form following function. It's important to me that my designs are 'useable'. My designs are innovative and tend to use a mix of high-quality materials.
What is your biggest motivator or muse when you are designing?
When I'm designing, my biggest motivator or muse is the end consumer of my design. I aim to evoke a response with my designs and for them to mean more to the consumer than just a utilitarian object.
What has been the most pivotal point or event in your design life so far?
The pivotal event of my design life was the day I was selected for admission into the Associate Training Program at JamFactory. It has given me an opportunity to turn my dreams into a reality.
What (or who) inspired your most recent design?
My most recent design was a two-year process to create a product that made an impact on the Australian design marketplace. I was fundamentally inspired by the different materials and processes used daily at JamFactory across multiple departments.
Do you have a favourite design in your portfolio, and why?
Although it often changes, my current favourite design in my portfolio is my shelving system. The design process has been a long but rewarding journey for me professionally.
What materials, processes or new categories do you hope to explore in future?
I'd really like to try my hand at something a little more conceptual and sculptural in the future.
Do you have one piece of styling/design advice for home decorators?
Pick items that resonate with you personally. Try to not be swayed by trends. Good design is timeless.
