1. Spray it gold
Collect a few pretty leaves from the park or your backyard, and spray paint them and your brown paper gold or silver for an easy but elegant package.Image via halfbakedharvest.com
2. Add a sweet treat
Tie on lollies or a tiny toy as a little bonus pressie - the brighter, the better to contrast with the plain brown paper and string. The kids will love it!Image via artifactuprisingblog.com
3. Make it personal
Fresh foliage always looks good and we love the idea of adding your own photograph as a gift card too. Try family photos or your best Instagram shots - print them yourself at home, or order a set via Origrami or similar.Image via theblushingbungalow.com
4. Decorate with fruit
Take inspiration from nature's vibrant colours and incorporate dried orange slices into your decorations. Beautiful and fragrant, what's not to love?Image via felttails.com
5. Play with pattern
School holiday activity, anyone? To create small dots like this, dip a pencil with an eraser on the end in paint or on an ink pad. Try metallics, bright colour, or you could use dot or star stickers for a similar effect. Get the kids to write the cards, too.Image via konfettirausch.de
6. Try modern minimalist
Prefer something more modern? Go for plain black twine or leather cord, with gift cards along the same lines, for monochromatic chic.Image via craftaholicsanonymouse.net
7. Get creative with household items
You don't have to go to extremes to make your brown paper pop. There are plenty of items around the house that you can repurpose for some pazzazz. Try your hand at recreating present bows with cupcake liners.Find these ideas and more on our Pinterest page.
