Umbra is a collection of consumer products developed with intelligent design as the focus. Objects are innovative and functional to keep pace with changing lifestyles. There would be no Umbra without design. Toronto-based homeware design company Umbra - Latin for "shade" - was born over 30 years ago when graphic designer, Paul Rowan, couldn’t find a nice window shade to hang in his apartment. He took it upon himself to make one and when he realised people liked it he teamed up with childhood friend, Les Mandelbaum, and Umbra was born. The modus operandi? To re-imagine everyday items into modern wares. Today, Umbra is recognised all over the world for bringing intelligent design to essential items thanks to their in-house team of international designers who create original designs that speak universally and personally to a broad customer base. The journey that started in Toronto continues and today Umbra's gorgeous, practical and quirky designs can be found in over 120 countries.
