Perfect in both positions. Have had two for years and still going strong. Use coasters with iced drinks to avoid moisture getting into the ply .

I ordered two of these and while I’m really happy with how practical they are as either a side table or bedside table, one of them had a weird textured substance almost like glue that was stuck to the top. I spent a good half hour trying to wipe it off with a damp cloth, even then it still left the surface feeling rough
