The mattress is a little thicker than a foam mattress with springs it came vacuum sealed and automatically pumped up, the springs are noticeable and would be ok for a child any bigger than a 10 year old or adult would need a mattress topper once trundle and mattress is pulled out. The mattress fits king single trundle perfectly just not the comfiest on mattresses for adults.

Bought this bed as a spare bed for extra guests. My first guest said it was really comfortable to sleep on. I also got a giggle out of the warning label when it was delivered. Would recommend this bed.
