Once built, this bed is sturdy, the velvet is very soft, and it looks quite stunning, but a few things… One of the pieces that arrived had holes in the wrong places! I had to drill through the metal in two places so that the feet could be secured to the metal rod that connects headboard to footboard and holds up the slats (see photo for how the holes don’t line up). There was a small rip in the velvet on one of the corners of the side panels—I was able to hide it by placing that edge at the headboard (would have been visible if it was the other way round with the rip at the foot of the bed). If you’re someone who likes to drink tea in bed etc., best to have long arms as it’s quite a reach to access any bedside tables because of the “wings” in the way. Not the worst thing in the world, but just beware ! If you like to tuck all your blankets in under the mattress, there isn’t a whole lot of room between where the mattress meets the bed frame so they’re a little tricky to secure. Possibly depends on the firmness of the mattress base also , and I can tuck in the sheets fine, but another other blankets struggle to fit as the mattress is pretty flush with the bed frame. If you don’t have a lot of natural lighting in your room, the velvet will appear darker. The website photo looks like it was shot in bright direct light. In my room with admittedly little sunlight and lower-level lighting, the colour is more of a dark taupe/mushroom, almost charcoal. Anyway, this is a super critical review—it’s a great bed for the price, and I’m happy with it now that it’s assembled… it was just quite an effort to put together (ahem, literally had to drill through metal!!).
